Château Mouton Rothschild

In 1853 it was bought by Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild, a member of the prominent Rothschild banking family, and it was under his ownership that Château Mouton Rothschild built its reputation for producing exceptional wines.

Château Mouton Rothschild was originally classified as aDeuxième Cruin Medoc & Sauternes Grand Cru Classé from 1855, but in 1973 it achieved the status ofPremier Cru, as the first property in over a century.

The property is located in the Pauillac appellation and the vineyards are primarily planted with Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, as well as Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, and extend over 90 hectares. The grapes are hand-sorted to ensure the highest quality, which is the basis of their powerful and age-worthy wines.

Unique to Château Mouton Rothschild are their labels. Each vintage has different designs and has been adorned by famous artists such as Picasso, Chagall and Andy Warhol.
