Château Léoville Poyferre is located in the Saint-Julien appellation of the Haut-Médoc region north of Bordeaux. The estate is part of the 3 Léoville estates that were all classified as 2eme Cru Classé in 1855. These estates were originally a joint estate, but were divided after the owner's death in the mid-18th century.
"Léoville Poyferre" comes from Baron Jean-Marie de Poyferre, who acquired the property in the 1840s. However, today the property is owned by the Cuvelier family, and has been since 1920. The family business is currently managed by Sara Lecompte Cuvelier, who has been at the helm since 2017. The property's 80 hectares are dominated by the Cabernet Sauvignon grape variety, which makes up 63% , as well as the grape varieties Merlot (25%), Petit Verdot (7%) and Cabernet Franc (5%).
The property produces aGrand Vincalled "Château Léoville Poyferre", and a2nd Winecalled "Pavillion de Léoville Poyferré", which is harvested under certified environmental conditions. The property's vineyard is integrated"Environmental Management System (SME)"that ensures sustainable practices.
