The Médoc is a renowned wine region located on the left bank of the Gironde River, northwest of the city of Bordeaux, France, famous for producing some of the world's most prestigious red wines. Médoc is divided into two main areas, Haut-Médoc and Bas-Médoc. Médoc's terroir is characterized by gravel, sand and clay soils. This combination of soil types and the maritime climate creates optimal conditions for growing high-quality grapes. The Médoc is home to several of the most prestigious châteaux and wineries in Bordeaux. Some of these are classified as Grand Cru Classé according to the Bordeaux classification of 1855.
