99 /100 points

Red-fruited and garrigue-laden, the nose of the 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape Hommage à Jacques Perrin is glorious, showing remarkable complexity in its notes of cherries, raspberries and strawberries, all accented by hints of bay leaf, lavender and thyme, plus deeper bass notes of black olives, roasted meat, espresso, star anise and dark chocolate. Full-bodied and intense, it seems to have added structure since last year, with a firm matrix of tannins holding it all together and lingering on the long finish. Put this Mourvèdre-based blend (approximately 60%) away for five or more years; it should drink well for a couple of decades beyond that.

About this wine

Rhône

The Rhône Valley, located in southern France, is one of the country's most important wine regions and is known for producing some of the world's most distinctive wines. This area is divided into two main regions: the Northern Rhône and the Southern Rhône. The northern part is famous for its focus on the Syrah grape and produces intense and structured wines such as Hermitage and Côte-Rôtie. The southern part is more varied and known for its blended wines, especially Châteauneuf-du-Pape, which often contains a blend of grapes such as Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre.
