The 2014 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a tightly-wound, tart red cherry bouquet that needs to forage more complexity during aging. It seems a little...lackadaisical at the moment. The palate is quite masculine with slightly dry tannin, firm in the mouth with good density, yet it needs to show more precision and focus on the finish. Not bad, but perhaps surpassed by some of Jadot's Vosne Premier crus this year.

Medium red; not a dark 2014. Pungent, soil-inflected aromas of strawberry, raspberry, pomegranate, spices, dried rose, resiny minty herbs and minerals, with spice and orange zest topnotes. Wonderfully dense and light on its feet. Utterly fine-grained, suave and delineated grand cru with great inner-mouth perfume and saline minerality to its flavors of raspberry, red cherry, spices, flowers and minerals. Classically dry Echézeaux with great class, energy and finesse, and not particularly backward. Stains the mouth with perfume on the firmly tannic, tactile, rising aftertaste. All in finesse, and hinting at the tart red berries (cranberry and pomegranate) of the year. Delivers the energy of the vintage in spades. This has been a splendid cuvée in recent vintages. (ST) 94+
