Château d’Issan 3ème Cru Classé 2020 is an elegant and exclusive red wine from Margaux, Bordeaux, with classic finesse, silky-smooth structure, and impressive depth. The vintage appears harmonious and refined, with freshness, complexity, and excellent aging potential.

The aroma offers blackcurrant, dark cherry, and plum, complemented by violet, tobacco, forest floor, liquorice, spices, and a discreet hint of pencil lead. The taste is full-bodied and polished, with fine tannins, juicy dark fruit, and an elegant balance between freshness, spicy finesse, and a long finish.

A successful wine that has lived up to its En Primeur promise. The emphasis remains on texture and depth, velvety tannins, perfumed violets, rose and raspberry leaf aromatics, slate, crushed rocks, serious at first then softening to show raspberry puree and smoked blackcurrant fruits. Cocoa dusting on the finish and clear spice, a little austere right now. The terroirs of the newly-purchased Château Pontac Lynch are in this Issan vintage, meaning the blend uses five grape varieties for the first time. Not easy to add these distinctive varieties while maintaining the elegant, finessed style of this estate, but it works. 50% new oak, 38hl/h yield.

Dark ruby garnet, purple reflections, deep core, delicate rim brightening. Hints of nougat caramel, floral nuances, delicate hints of liquorice and purple fruit, inviting bouquet. Juicy, good sweetness, chocolatey texture, ripe, supporting tannins that also characterise the finish, powerful style, a savoury food companion, has substance and certain ageing potential. The 2020 d'Issan is a gorgeous, wonderfully complete wine. Blueberry, sage, dried herbs, menthol, lavender and licorice are all beautifully knit together. Medium in body, with notable depth and freshness, Issan is all class. Silky tannins round out the long, vibrant finish. The 2020 d'Issan is the first vintage that incorporates Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec to complement the traditional Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in the blend.
