Château La Mission Haut-Brion 2018 is an exclusive red wine from Pessac-Léognan, Bordeaux, combining great depth, intensity, and aristocratic balance. The 2018 vintage is particularly noteworthy for its ripe fruit, concentration, and structural precision, making the wine ideal for collectors and connoisseurs seeking a grand Bordeaux with both prestige, complexity, and impressive aging potential.

The aroma is deep and concentrated with notes of dark plums, blackcurrants, blackberries, and black raspberries, lifted by violet, warm spices, graphite, cedar, tobacco, and a subtle hint of chocolate and smoke. The aromatic profile is complex and elegant with a distinct minerality, which adds extra finesse and character to the wine.

The taste is full-bodied, rich, and silky-smooth with a juicy opening, dense fruit concentration, and ripe, finely woven tannins. The dark fruit unfolds layer by layer along with spicy, earthy, and mineral nuances, while the fresh acidity creates energy and balance. The finish is long, intense, and lingering with both depth, freshness, and classic grandeur.

The wine pairs excellently with exclusive dinners featuring beef, lamb, veal, duck, game, and braised or grilled dishes, but also with a well-selected cheese board. Château La Mission Haut-Brion 2018 is an obvious choice for wine lovers who desire a grand red Bordeaux with historical weight, refined power, and an expression that exudes luxury and terroir.

The 2018 La Mission Haut-Brion is a blend of 53.5% Merlot, 42.9% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3.6% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple colored, it emerges from the glass with a first wave of stewed black and red plums, mulberries and black raspberries scents, followed by pronounced notions of warm cassis, clove oil, violets and chocolate box, with hints of cast-iron pan, pencil lead and forest floor coming through after a few minutes. The medium to full-bodied palate shimmers with energy, delivering layers of red and black fruits with earthy and mineral sparks and a texture so satiny you need to remember to look for it, finishing with amazing vibrancy. This is so wonderfully evocative and singular, and yet it feels like its holding something back. It makes for an impressive glass right now, but give it a good 5 years in bottle to allow further nuances to emerge and expect it to seriously reward those who can wait a good 12-15 years, when it should really hit its stride. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate

Still backward and knitted down, but this is an exceptional Mission Haut-Brion that is packed full of precisely-cut cassis and bilberry fruits, shot through with brighter, juicier redcurrant and raspberry notes. The flavors stretch out through the finish, gripping on, helped by a slate texture that becomes more apparent as the immediate hit of fruit and tannins softens. Floral perfume in evidence as it softens.

93–95. Barrel Sample. There is a light herbal touch to this wine that comes from the Sauvignon Blanc. However, it also has concentration and weight, offering a texture that brings freshness to balance the ripe fruits. The wine will age well. Roger Voss

Deep dark ruby, opaque core with purple reflections and a delicate water edge. Ripe berry fruit, fine touch of fig and a hint of nougat, overall an inviting bouquet. Complex, juicy, ripe cherries, vivid, well integrated tannins, chocolatey finish, long lasting, fine minerality, delicate toasty aromas on the back palate, very good length.

La Mission Haut-Brion 2018 has a deep garnet-purple color. It slowly unfurls to offer notes of blackcurrant cordial, plum preserves, and Morello cherries, leading to hints of menthol, cedar, pencil lead, and roses, plus a touch of unsmoked cigars. Full-bodied, rich and opulent on the palate, it is jam-packed with juicy black fruits and loads of fragrant accents, supported by ripe, grainy tannins, finishing long and earthy.

About the grape

Serving
