Château Lafon-Rochet 2020 is a distinctive red wine from Saint-Estèphe, Bordeaux, with dark fruit, classic structure, and a cool, elegant expression. The vintage appears focused and harmonious with excellent freshness, good depth, and a stylish, age-worthy character that suits the wine's classic style.

The nose offers blackcurrant, dark berries, and earthy notes, complemented by lavender, liquorice, mint, clove, and a subtle mineral touch. The palate is medium to full-bodied with a firm, well-balanced structure and fine tannins, where concentrated fruit, freshness, and spicy notes combine in a long and nuanced finish.

The wine pairs excellently with beef, lamb, duck, game, as well as braised and grilled dishes – an obvious choice for classic dinners and for those seeking a Saint-Estèphe with balance, depth, and ageing potential.

Points, passion and precision

91 /100
The 2020 Lafon-Rochet opens in the glass with aromas of cassis, plums and licorice, followed by a medium to full-bodied, deep palate with good concentration, lively acids and plenty of powdery structuring tannin that asserts itself on the finish. This, too, is more structured than its 2019 counterpart and will require a bit of patience. - William Kelley, Wine Advocate

92 /100
Deep dark ruby, purple reflections, opaque core, soft brightening on the rim. Floral notes with violets and rose petals, ripe plums, some nougat and orange peel. Juicy blackberries, a fine acidity, integrated tannins, a touch of fine chocolate on the finish, mineral and salty, long lasting, good ageing potential.

93 /100
Beautifully dark damson plum in colour, some austerity evident on the tannins, focus on raspberry leaf, pyrazine tomato leaf that gives lift with eucaluptus and mint freshness. Good quality firm tannins, lacks generosity right now, but this is an excellent quality wine with great potential for ageing. The last full year under the Tesseron family, before selling to Jacky Lorenzetti in 2021. Jean-Claude Berrouet and Eric Boissenot consulants.

About the grape

Serving
