Le Petit Lion du Marquis de Las Cases is the second wine from the iconic Château Léoville-Las-Cases , located in the heart of Saint-Julien in Bordeaux. The 2021 vintage offers an elegant and well-balanced wine that provides a beautiful insight into the house's classic style – accessible, refined and with clear character.

The wine has a deep ruby red color and offers an aromatic nose of blackcurrant, cherry and ripe plum, nicely complemented by notes of cedar, tobacco and subtle spice. The taste is harmonious and structured with silky tannins, fresh acidity and a long, elegant aftertaste.

Le Petit Lion 2021 is an obvious choice both now and over the next few years. It goes perfectly with beef, lamb, game or mushroom dishes – and is ideal for those who want classic Bordeaux quality in a more immediate and ready-to-drink style.

This second-label wine is juicy, the aromatic black plum fruits and touches of toast are already balanced. It is succulent and saline, with red berry and grey-pepper flavors in harmony. Drink from 2027.

The 2021 Le Petit Lion unwinds in the glass with aromas of cassis, plums, loamy soil and cigar wrapper. Medium to full-bodied, impressively deep and lively, with powdery tannins and a saline finish, it's the usual mix of mainly young-vine Cabernet Sauvignon and old-vine, less optimally exposed Merlot in a block that borders Latour.

The aromas of blackcurrants, violets and graphite are impressive. Some white pepper and stone undertones. Medium-bodied with firm and juicy tannins. Shows linear intensity and energy. 57% merlot, 40% cabernet sauvignon and 3% cabernet franc. Give this two or three years to come around. Best after 2028.

This has good depth of colour, with spiced tomato leaf on the aromatics. It's austere, with tannic grip and estate signature, cassis and blackberry autumnal fruits, and a kick of espresso. This is the last Petit Lion with only Leoville Las Cases grapes, as from 2022 it is to become the 2nd wine across both LLC and Clos de Marquis. 40% new oak.

A blend of 57% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 3% Cabernet Franc, Le Petit Lion du Marquis de Las Cases 2021 has a deep garnet-purple color. It storms out of the glass with powerful notes of fresh blackberries and black cherries, plus suggestions of licorice, tar, rose oil, and bay leaves. The medium-bodied palate bursts with vibrant, forward black and and red berry flavors, framed by ripe, grainy tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing long and fragrant. Impressive!

The 2021 Le Petit Lion represents one-third of the production from the Clos de Léoville. It is raised 40% new oak. It has a bright bouquet, a mixture of blackberry and blueberry fruit, fine delineation, quite floral and Margaux-like in style. The palate is medium-bodied with edgy, slightly chalky tannins on the entry, a fine salinity here that, for me, marks it out against the La Petite Marquise with quite a persistent tail on the finish. Just needs 2-3 years in bottle. Alcohol level is 13.27% here. Drink 2025 - 2040
