Clos Fourtet 2020 is an intense and elegant red wine from Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux, with dark fruit, chalky minerality, and a deep, classic structure. The vintage is concentrated, serious, and harmonious with great precision, beautiful freshness, and a significant aging potential, giving the wine both power, finesse, and a clear terroir character.

The aroma offers blackcurrant, dark cherries, and ripe plums, complemented by violet, liquorice, cedar, fine spices, a hint of smoke, and a cool chalky minerality. The taste is full-bodied and dense with ripe fruit, firm but well-integrated tannins, and a lively acidity, where dark berries, spicy notes, and a chalky depth combine in a long, nuanced, and elegant aftertaste.

The wine pairs excellently with beef, lamb, duck, game, as well as braised and grilled dishes – an obvious choice for classic dinners and for those seeking a Saint-Émilion with depth, structure, and great aging potential.

The 2020 Clos Fourtet is a blend of 90% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc, harvested from 15th to 30th September and weighing in with an alcohol of 14.5% and a pH of 3.6. It is being aged for 14-18 months in 50% new oak barrels, 48% second-fill barrels and 2% amphora. Deep garnet-purple in color, it comes bounding out of the glass with ripe, expressive notes of crushed black plums, juicy black berries and black cherry preserves, followed by hints of ground cloves, cinnamon stick, camphor and cedar chest. The medium to full-bodied palate is jam-packed with bright, vivacious black fruits, framed by velvety tannins and bags of freshness, finishing with great length. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate

Deep dark ruby in colour with an opaque core, purple reflections, and subtle brightening on the rim. On the nose, a multi-faceted bouquet of inviting dark berry fruit, ripe plum, some liquorice, and delicate nougat. The juicy palate is complex, with taut tannins, good freshness, dark berry and cherry fruit and a saline finish. Still under developed at the moment, the wine is persistent and promises future ageing potential.
