After tasting the ethereal, medium-bodied 2021, the deep, saturated hue of the 2020 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale represents quite a contrast. Exhibiting aromas of sweet cherries, berries, plums and spices, it's medium to full-bodied, rich and supple, with sweet powdery tannins and a concentrated core of fruit. This will reward a bit of patience.

The black-cherry fruit is almost opulent, but the meat extract and smoky aromas keep it from being dominant. A very powerful and weighty 2020, but with good acidity and licorice character on the full-bodied palate. Compact tannins at the emphatically dry finish. Difficult to say whether this will benefit from further ageing. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

The nose is shy and closed, but the palate displays an incredibly fine, Atlas-silk weave of fine tannin and ripest, yet precise fruit. This is an incredibly concentrated wine but one with finesse and poise. Lovely and very 2020.
