Château Calon-Ségur – Saint-Estèphe 2023 (75 cl) is an elegant and promising Bordeaux from Château Calon-Ségur, where classic structure meets modern balance.

The wine is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot and smaller proportions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, offering aromatic notes of blackcurrant, blackberry, and dark cherries, accompanied by graphite, cedar, and fine spices.

On the palate, it is well-structured and harmonious with fine tannins, fresh acidity, and a concentrated yet elegant fruit profile. The finish is long and persistent with excellent depth and classic Saint-Estèphe character.

The 2023 vintage shows a good balance between freshness and maturity, offering both immediate drinking pleasure and solid aging potential.

The 2023 Calon-Ségur is another en primeur success for this resurgent Saint-Estèphe third growth. Wafting from the glass with aromas of cassis, pencil shavings, wild berries and plums, it's medium to full-bodied, cool and layered, with a deep and integrated core, terrific concentration, lively acids and refined structuring tannins, concluding with a long, penetrating finish. It's a blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot that checks in at 14% alcohol.

A total joy, just love the salt scrape and pumice stone, graphite, crushed rocks, liquorice, squid ink, cigar box, cassis, so good. Poise, finesse, drive and forward motion. Precise and confident texture to this wine, has higher levels of both Cabernets in 2023 than in 2022, having reached exceptional maturity, and it delivers the heart and spirit of old school Calon, coupled with violet aromatics and sculpted tannic confidence. The blend for this was built on Cabernet, and you can feel it. 100% new oak, director Vincent Millet.

About the grape

Serving
