Blended of 59% Cabernet Sauvignon and 41% Merlot aging in 60% new barriques, the 2018 Haut Batailley is very deep purple-black in color and takes some coaxing to reveal profound notes of dark chocolate, crème de cassis, blueberry pie and anise with waves of raspberry pie, lavender and Indian spices. Full, very tightly would and jam-packed with layers of crunchy black and blue fruits, it has a firm line of ripe, grainy tannins and compelling freshness, finishing long with a mineral hint coming through. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate

A bigger vintage than 2017, which translates into a more powerful and structured wine – helped also no doubt by the influence of the new team. For drinking now, I would suggest the 2017 vintage, but this is great quality, has plenty of ageing potential, with layers of cocoa bean, dense cassis and bilberry fruits, and enjoyably supple tannins. 38hl/h yield, 60% new oak for ageing, with the time in oak brought down to 14 months. Harvest September 21 to October 8.
