Château Haut-Brion 1er Cru Classé 2019 is a monumental and exceptionally refined red wine from Pessac-Léognan, Bordeaux, featuring dark fruit, mineral depth, and an aristocratic, almost timeless expression. The vintage is intense, silky, and impressively harmonious, showing great precision, cool freshness, and a rare balance between power, finesse, and age-worthy structure.

The aroma offers blackcurrants, dark plums, and ripe cherries, complemented by cedarwood, tobacco, licorice, graphite, fine spices, and a discreet smoky hint. The palate is full-bodied and dense, with layers of ripe fruit, ultra-fine tannins, and vibrant freshness, where dark berries, spicy nuances, minerality, and an elegant earthy touch converge in a long, nuanced, and exceptionally persistent finish.

This wine pairs excellently with beef, veal, lamb, duck, game, as well as braised and grilled dishes – an obvious choice for grand dinners and for those seeking a classic top Bordeaux with both depth, elegance, and exceptional aging potential.

Points, passion and precision

98 /100
Wafting from the glass with aromas of blackberries and plums mingled with notions of pencil shavings, burning embers and creamy new oak, the 2019 Haut-Brion is full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with a textural attack that segues into an ample and enveloping core of fruit, concluding with a long, expansive finish. Broad-shouldered and muscular, its rich, powdery tannins are already seamlessly integrated; and though it's labeled at 15% alcohol, far higher than the great vintages of yesteryear, it avoids any sense of over-ripeness. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate

The wine's richness gives it the density for aging. The bold structure is mitigated by the wine's juicy acidity that cuts the structure with freshness. This grand wine has a solid character as well as plenty of juicy fruits. Drink from 2027. Roger Voss

About the grape

Serving
