Château Léoville Barton 2ème Cru Classé 2018 is an exclusive red wine from Saint-Julien in Bordeaux and an obvious choice for the quality-conscious wine lover seeking classic Médoc character with depth, precision, and aristocratic elegance. The 2018 vintage is particularly impressive, with a beautiful combination of power, freshness, and refinement that underscores the house's signature style and the wine's great aging potential.

On the nose, the wine opens with intense notes of blackcurrant, blackberry, and dark plums, elegantly accompanied by cedar, cigar box, cocoa, violet, mint, spices, and a discreet hint of toasted oak. The aromatic profile is complex, classic, and deeply sophisticated, with a beautiful balance between dark fruit, freshness, and the characteristic Saint-Julien notes that give the wine a particularly noble expression.

The palate is full-bodied, concentrated, and impressively well-balanced, with silky, polished tannins and a vibrant freshness that lifts the wine's dark fruit and spicy nuances. The mid-palate is dense, harmonious, and layered, with notes of blackcurrant, blueberry, dark cherries, white pepper, and subtle herbs, while the finish is long, elegant, and persistent, with both depth, finesse, and classic structure. The result is a wine that convincingly unites power and precision.

Château Léoville Barton 2018 is made from a classic Bordeaux blend, with a main emphasis on Cabernet Sauvignon complemented by Merlot. This results in a wine with significant structure, great aromatic depth, and considerable development potential in the cellar. At the same time, the vintage already presents an impressive balance and a superb texture, making it particularly attractive for both collectors and connoisseurs.

The wine pairs particularly well with beef, lamb, veal, duck, game, as well as braised, grilled, and oven-roasted dishes. For those seeking an exclusive Bordeaux with classic Saint-Julien finesse, dark fruit, refined tannin structure, and great aging potential, Château Léoville Barton 2018 is a particularly attractive choice.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 Léoville Barton needs a little swirling to coax out delicate notions of fresh blackberries, mulberries and cassis, plus touches of pencil shavings, clove oil, charcoal and black truffles. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers a great intensity of earth and mineral-laced black fruit flavors, supported by firm, ripe, grainy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing on a lingering ferrous note. Give it a good 4-5 years in bottle and drink it over the next 20 years+. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate

A brilliant Léoville, continuing to impress as it has every time I have tasted it. The width and depth of the ripe tannins is matched pace for pace by an elegance to the cassis, bilberry, blackcurrant fruit. As it opens, cocoa bean, smoked earth, charcoal, graphite and woodsmoke come spiralling out of the glass, and this is just gorgeous. Easily one of the wines of the vintage not just in St Julien but across Bordeaux. 70% new oak. Technical director François Brehant, consultant Eric Boissenot.

Dark ruby, purple reflections, faint brightening on the rim. Multilayered bouquet with attractive noble wood notes, dark berries, a hint of liquorice and notes of fresh orange zest. Juicy, ripe cherry, discreet sweetness, silky, ripe tannins, elegant structure, salty finish and very good length. Shows great harmony, a classic. (2025-2060)

About the grape

Serving
