Château Montrose 2ème Cru Classé 2014 is an exclusive red wine from Saint-Estèphe in Bordeaux, France, which combines classic Médoc structure with depth, elegance, and great precision. The wine is a fine expression of Château Montrose's characteristic style, where power, freshness, and refined complexity go hand in hand. The 2014 vintage offers a particular balance between ripe fruit, firm structure, and classic French finesse, making it an excellent choice for those seeking a serious and age-worthy Bordeaux.

On the nose, the wine opens with nuances of blackcurrant, dark cherries, and plum, beautifully complemented by cedar, tobacco, graphite, spices, and a slight hint of earthy undertones. The aromatic profile is deep, classic, and very inviting with a beautiful combination of dark fruit and the characteristic Saint-Estèphe signature. The palate is full-bodied, well-structured, and precise with fine tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, nuanced finish, where fruit, minerality, and spicy complexity clearly emerge. The result is a wine with both strength, balance, and great elegance.

Château Montrose 2014 pairs particularly well with beef, lamb, game, braised dishes, and mature cheeses. It is a wine for those seeking a classic and characterful Bordeaux with depth, complexity, and great aging potential. An excellent bottle for special dinners or for the wine cellar if you desire a Saint-Estèphe with timeless French style and marked personality.

Tasted at the château, the 2014 Montrose builds on the promise it showed in barrel with gorgeous blackberry, raspberry, cedar and orange sorbet scents that are extremely pure and refined. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, very precise acidity and layers of crisp black fruit laced with vanilla from the new oak at the moment. That will be subsumed in time. What you have here is a very precise, multi-layered, almost sensual Montrose that is going to delight many for years to come. This is highly recommended—one of the finest Left Bank wines this vintage. Tasted September 2016. - Neal Martin, Wine Advocate

Noticeably younger than many in its tannic structure and fruit concentration, this has a ton of lift and a ton of slate-filled tannic grip. A stately St Esèphe, entirely in keeping with the character of this wine, lovers of classical, balalanced, concentrated Montrose will want to get hold of this – and it is just about ready to begin drinking, although zero risk of it tipping too far into tertiary over the next decade. It has delivered every time I’ve tasted it, and really shows itself well in a lineup against other 2014s. Harvest September 22 to October 16. Hervé Berland director.

This is a very fine wine showing a new level of quality at Montrose. With its almost velvet tannins inside the intense black fruits, the wine is rich, smooth and generous. Blackberry and black-plum fruits are to the fore along with the fine acidity and great structure. A wine to age for decades, it will be ready to drink from 2027.

About the grape

Serving
