Thomas Duroux and his team opted to wait to pick the 2022 Palmer in pursuit of full maturity, taking advantage of the resilience of the estate's terroirs, and they have followed up with a brilliantly executed élevage that has retained pure, vivid flavors despite the wine's ripeness and unctuosity. Bursting with aromas of blackberries, crème de cassis, mulberries and violets, it's full-bodied, velvety and enveloping, with a sumptuous core of rich, fleshy fruit framed by sweet, powdery tannins, taking on more and more floral nuances as it sits in the glass. This is one of the Médoc's most sensual wines this year.

Bottled in August 2025, after a year in barrique followed by a second year of maturation in foudre, the 2023 Palmer has turned out beautifully. Bursting from the glass with aromas of plums and blackberries mingled with notions of licorice, iris and exotic spices, it's medium- to full-bodied, with a broad, unctuous attack segueing into an ample, layered, multidimensional mid-palate girdled by sweet, powdery tannins. Sensual and demonstrative but unerringly precise, it's a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot that was picked between September 11 and October 5.

Far less reserved than it was during En Primeur, this has really expanded over ageing, showing cloves, slate, graphite, cassis, bilberry, cigar box, oyster shell, squid ink, fine tannins, stretching out through the palate. Gorgeous stuff, right at the top of the game in terms of capturing the effortless signature of 2023 in the best wines. 32hl/h yield, 55% new oak for ageing during the first year, with the wine then moving into 3,000l oak casks for the second year. One point upscore.

96-98. Barrel Sample. This powerful wine has solid black tannins and rich juicy black fruits. It is dense and concentrated with a dark structure and great potential. It is organic and biodynamic.
