Château Pape Clément Pessac-Léognan 2021, 75cl is a Grand Cru Classé red wine from the legendary estate of Pessac-Léognan, founded by Pope Clément V, who himself came from the Bordeaux region. This wine is made from a cuvée consisting of 50% Merlot, 47% Cabernet Sauvignon as well as Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, and presents itself with a deep, almost opaque color.
The wine opens with an intense aroma of sweet berries, cherries, espresso, black truffles, toasted oak and clay notes. On the palate, a rich, dense texture is experienced with ripe tannins, fresh acidity and layers of black cherries, plum, licorice, chocolate and spices. The 2021 vintage is a little more subdued than previous vintages, but retains an elegant and almost restrained style with vibrant red fruit, espresso and smoked cocoa on the long finish.
The wine scores an average of 92 points from international wine experts and is matured in 70% new French oak barrels for 16-18 months, giving it its characteristic complexity and depth. With an alcohol percentage of 13% and good aging potential, the wine can be enjoyed from 2025-2050. Perfect for beef, game birds, truffle dishes or mature cheeses. Recommended served at 16-18 degrees after a few hours of decanting.
