Château Pontet-Canet 5ème Cru Classé 2010 is a grand and exclusive red wine from Pauillac in Bordeaux, France, which combines power, depth, and classic Médoc character in a refined and impressive expression. The 2010 vintage is considered one of the most significant and age-worthy Bordeaux vintages, and Château Pontet-Canet here demonstrates its special ability to combine intense fruit, structure, and elegance with modern precision and classic French finesse. It is a wine with both authority, complexity, and great personality.

On the nose, the wine opens with intense notes of blackcurrant, black cherry, and dark plum, beautifully complemented by cedar, tobacco, graphite, spices, and a discreet hint of dark chocolate. The aromatic profile is deep, complex, and very inviting, with a fine balance between ripe dark fruit and classic Pauillac notes. The palate is full-bodied, concentrated, and silky smooth with firm, ripe tannins, lively freshness, and a long, persistent finish where dark fruit, minerality, and spicy nuances elegantly merge. The result is a wine with both strength, precision, and impressive aging potential.

Château Pontet-Canet 2010 pairs particularly well with beef, lamb, game, braised dishes, and mature cheeses. It is an ideal wine for special dinners and for those seeking a great Bordeaux with depth, complexity, and timeless French elegance.

The 2010 Pontet-Canet offers a very deep garnet color. Whoa—the nose explodes with a vast array of black fruit preserves and savory nuances: plum preserves, blackcurrant cordial, black cherry coulis and licorice with wafts of dried lavender, melted chocolate, charcuterie, black olives, truffles and camphor plus a hint of sandalwood. The full-bodied palate is completely filled with black fruits, exotic spices and earthy nuances with a firm foundation of ripe, grainy tannins and bold freshness, finishing with epic length and depth. So much more expressive and seductive than a lot of 2010s at this stage, and yet it is still incredibly youthful! - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, The Wine Advocate

The 2010 Pontet-Canet is noticeably deep in colour compared to its peers. This is unusually ripe and sweet on the nose, more red than black fruit, maybe a little jammy and confit-like. I would never guess this was a 2010 Left Bank. The palate is medium-bodied with a fleshy mouthfeel, plenty of graphite-tinged red fruit. Approachable in style and sensually fulfilling, it just lacks a bit of grip and backbone on the finish. I have fonder memories of previous bottles but I could not identify any specific fault.

Velvety tannins, intense with a black cherry and luscious creamy blackberry, fresh fig and raspberry fruits, with tobacco, liquorice, cedar, sandalwood, fennel. It’s a wine to love, higher alcohol than usual in Pauillac which gives weight and texture through the mid palate, but the tannins are powerful enough to keep things confidently in check, and it is just starting to move into its drinking window. Harvest September 29 to October 17. First year of biodynamic certification.

Dense, yes, but this is also a handsome wine that balances complex tannins with pure black currant fruits that shine. This biodynamic wine has a generous, full and rich feel, ripe with just a touch of restraint. The greatness of the wine shows in its purity with a deceptive simplicity that hides the final complex tannins and structure.

Dark ruby, purple reflections, brightening on the rim. Blackberry with a hint of mint, tobacco, nuances of cassis and liquorice, fine minerality, a hint of tea tree oil, fascinating aromatic depth. Juicy and elegant on the palate, blackberries and blackcurrants, vivid tannins, pleasant fruitiness in the finish, salty and mineral in the aftertaste. A great wine with personality and length. Certain ageing potential for years; not yet fully developed but already accessible. (2025 -2060).

About the grape

Serving
