The 2008 vintage has developed a complex and mature profile with notes of baked apples, pear, citrus and brioche, elegant minerality and subtle smoke and toast nuances leading to a long, fresh and full-bodied finish. The champagne has fine, persistent bubbles, a crisp acidity and a harmonious balance between ripe fruit and classic Burgundy charm, making it perfect both as a festive aperitif and with delicate dishes with fish, shellfish or finely cooked white meat.

Aromas of cooked apples, apple pie and salted butter. Flinty and smoky. It all follows through to a full body with layers of fruit, fine bubbles and a juicy, fruity finish. Lots of fruit, yet framed. Drink or hold.

This is a beautifully mature Champagne, with ripe Chardonnay from the Côtes de Blancs now just hinting at toastiness. The wine's freshness is still apparent so that the balance with maturity is just right. Drink this fine wine now, but also age. Roger Voss
