Château Cos d’Estournel “Les Pagodes de Cos” 2019 is a distinctive and elegant red wine from Saint-Estèphe, Bordeaux, featuring dark fruit, a classic structure, and a silky, modern expression. This vintage presents as intense, aromatic, and harmonious with beautiful freshness, velvety tannins, and a captivating balance between power, finesse, and depth.

The aroma offers blackcurrant, blueberry, and blackberry, complemented by violet, bergamot, black tea, warm spices, and a discreet creamy hint from the oak. The taste is full-bodied and polished with dense fruit, soft tannins, and a vibrant freshness, where dark berries, floral nuances, spice, and a slightly saline mineral touch converge in a long, nuanced, and elegant finish.

This wine pairs excellently with beef, veal, lamb, duck, game, as well as braised and grilled dishes – an obvious choice for classic dinners and for those seeking a Saint-Estèphe with charm, depth, and great aging potential.

93 /100
The 2019 Les Pagodes de Cos (14.03% alcohol) is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc, aging in 20% new barriques. Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, notions of wild blueberries, boysenberries and redcurrant jelly come bounding out of the glass, followed by a profound core of warm cassis, licorice and bouquet garni with a touch of cinnamon stick. Medium to full-bodied, the palate bursts with bright, expressive black and red fruit flavors, framed by firm, fine-grained tannins and loads of freshness, finishing on a lingering spicy note. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate

Pale yellow-green, silver reflections. Grassy Sauvignon bouquet, a hint of grapefruit. Light-footed, delicate sweetness, some caramel and verbena, mango and pineapple, lemony-salty, a real fruit cocktail, a multi-faceted food wine.

The name of the second wine of Cos d'Estournel highlights the exotic Chinese pagodas that adorn the roof of the cellars. It is a dense wine, smoky, spiced from wood aging. Licorice flavors will integrate as the wine ages further. Drink this fine wine from 2025. Roger Voss

About the grape

Serving
