Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut 2013 – Exclusive vintage champagne with elegance, minerality, and great aging potential

Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut 2013 is an iconic vintage champagne from Champagne, France, created as the house's prestige cuvée and one of the finest expressions of Blanc de Blancs. The wine is made from 100% Chardonnay sourced from the five Grand Cru villages in the Côte des Blancs: Avize, Chouilly, Cramant, Oger, and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger.

The 2013 vintage is highlighted for its unique combination of energy, purity, and chalky minerality. Taittinger's material describes the wine as characterized by dynamism, striking aromatic precision, and a long finish with saline, mineral notes, as well as delicate hints of ginger and licorice.

In the glass, Taittinger Comtes de Champagne 2013 presents a refined and precise style. Retailer descriptions point to aromas of flowers, minerals, pear, golden raisins, citrus, and white fruits, while the taste is perceived as fresh, rich, and persistent with a tight, chalky structure and elegant mousse.

This exclusive Blanc de Blancs champagne pairs exceptionally well with oysters, lobster, caviar, fish, seafood, and elegant appetizers, but is also an obvious choice as a luxurious aperitif or for special celebrations. The product is supplied in 75 cl bottles.

After the relatively easygoing 2012 comes the more serious 2013 vintage. A long growing season with a late harvest has marked the wine with intense acids. The aromas are also cool and intense: lemony fruit on the palate is fragranced with just a hint of coffee beans. As the wine warms in the glass, herbaceous nuances emerge (and a dusting of almonds for good measure). Full of nervy energy from start to finish, the mid-palate interjects a ripe juiciness, hinting at the oft-ignored ripeness of this vintage. The acidity and extended lees aging have imparted a delicate salinity on the long, complex finish. Phenominally phenolic! This precise and fresh rendition of Comtes de Champagne may threaten to topple 2008 from its throne in the decades ahead. Excellent! Alcohol 12.50%. Tasted Nov 2023.

This beautiful Chardonnay from five top Grand Cru vineyards is textured with fruit that is still impressively perfumed. Its concentration has allowed it to remain perennially young. Although there are hints of toastiness, the Champagne has many more years of potential. Drink now and at least up to 2027.

Taittinger’s 2013 Blanc de Blancs Comtes de Champagne, disgorged in December 2023 with a dosage of nine grams per liter, is well worth seeking out. Derived from a long, slow ripening season marked by cool nights and an October harvest, it is slightly less acid-driven and a touch fleshier than the 2008, offering up a deep bouquet of nashi pear, lemon confit, freshly baked bread, almond paste and a gentle smoky reduction edge. On the palate, it is full-bodied and incisive, with a concentrated core of fruit, bright acids and considerable tension, culminating in a persistent, saline finish. While already indicative of its potential, its best days are still ahead, and it should continue to improve over the next two decades or more. Choosing a favorite between the 2013 and 2014 will be difficult, as both are strong editions of Comtes.

The 2013 Comtes de Champagne captures all the pedigree of this great vintage in its energy, depth and vibrancy. Lemon confit, dried flowers, chamomile, spice and crushed rocks all race across the palate. Passionfruit, ginger, marzipan and mint appear later, filling out the layers beautifully. Harvest took place in October in what has become the exception rather than the norm in Champagne. Drink to 2043

Taittinger’s 2013 Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs captures an abundance of finesse from Champagne’s cooler 2013 vintage. Mineral-rich and taut, it opens with honeyed notes of ripe citrus, poached nashi pear, butter wafers, and crème fraiche that gradually gain aromatic intensity as it unfurls. Light to medium-bodied, it has well-heeled, vibrant acidity that lends an energetic tension and freshness to the long, toasty finish. This subtly assertive and refined Comtes de Champagne should evolve beautifully with bottle age for 15 years. Drink to 2040

About the grape

Chardonnay

Serving

Chardonnays alsidighed betyder, at serveringstemperaturen varierer efter stil.

Temperatur: Mellem 8-12°C

- Lette, uoaked Chardonnay (Chablis, mineralske vine): 8-10°C – kold nok til at fremhæve friskhed og syre
- Fyldige, oaked Chardonnay (Bourgogne, New World): 10-12°C – lidt varmere for at frigive cremede, smørrede aromaer

Tag vinen ud af køleskabet 10-15 minutter før servering, hvis den er for kold. For kolde vine dæmper aromaerne.

Dekantning: Sjældent nødvendig

Hvidvin dekanteres sjældent, men ældre Bourgogne med kompleksitet kan have gavn af lidt luft. Hæld vinen i en karaffel 15-20 minutter før servering for at åbne aromaerne.
