Bollinger R.D. 2002 Extra Brut is a prestigious vintage champagne from Champagne, France, crafted in the house's characteristic style, offering power, precision, and great aging potential. R.D. stands for "Recently Disgorged," meaning the champagne has aged exceptionally long on its lees and was disgorged late to preserve both mature complexity and remarkable freshness. Bollinger itself describes the R.D. style as an old vintage, recently disgorged and dosed as Extra Brut.
The 2002 vintage is a particularly strong expression of the cuvée and is composed of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay. Several sources also indicate that the wine comes from 23 crus, of which 71% are Grand Cru and 29% Premier Cru. This edition was disgorged on May 17, 2017, after approximately 13 years of aging on the lees, and the dosage is about 3 g/l, giving it a dry and focused Extra Brut style.
In the glass, Bollinger R.D. 2002 presents an intense and refined style, with aromas ranging from honey, quince, baked apple, cinnamon, freshly baked bread, coffee, and toasted notes. The taste is described as powerful, well-balanced, and mineral with a marked freshness, creamy depth, and a very long finish. It is a champagne that impressively unites maturity and energy.
This exclusive prestige champagne pairs particularly well with lobster, caviar, shellfish, fine fish dishes, and elegant appetizers, but also works beautifully as a luxurious aperitif for special occasions. The bottle is delivered in 75 cl.
